California Drive Testing - Mobile Broadband

Rob Osborn: At the beginning of May, the California Public Utilities Commission began a month-long project to test mobile broadband access at 1,200 locations around the state. Tests include data coverage and throughput for the four largest operators. This is the first time a state entity in California has set out to validate coverage by mobile operators. The results will be made available on the CPUC's interactive broadband map later this year. The project is funded by a grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, and also covers other activities including: technical assistance, programs to improve computer ownership and internet use, wireless application development, and data collection, integration, and validation.
