Stephen Crews finds Desolate Country, but is there Broadband?
This site number 1787 and what is the broadband service like? For T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T there was no broadband to speak of, but Verizon clocked in at 27 mbps, very fast.

Tester Tom Allread encountered some heavy traffic near Biggs
Broadband was certainly reliable at this location in the northeastern Central Valley just west of Oroville with all four providers testing at served speeds.

Plenty of Broadband at this Isolated Locale
This lovely photo is taken by tester 10, Steven Crews. This is site 1993, near Mono Lake east of the Sierra Mountains. What kind of broadband can we find at this location? The Verizon phone clocked in at 26 Mbps. The Verizon netbook hit 18 Mbps. There is plenty of broadband here for surfing, streaming and texting if your provider is Verizon. AT&T were speeds were both below 6 Mbps for both netbook and phone, while Sprint and T-Mobile service were negligible.

Beautiful View but No Broadband
Our first photo from the fifth round. Here is the view from site 2357 just east of Kings Canyon National Park. And what kind of broadband service can be found at this location? None of the providers we tested, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T and Sprint had any service at this location. There is no opportunity to surf, check e-mail or have a conversation at this location. Places like this are getting harder and harder to find as the mobile broadband providers build up their networks.

Mobile Testing will Begin April 14
For all those mobile testing fans who were expecting to see our mobile testers on those California roads this Monday, I am sorry to report that our fifth round of mobile testing will be delayed one week. This will allow time for some of that snow to melt on those mountain country roads. And what developments will this latest round bring? Will Verizon continued to expand its reach into some of the more isolated sections of the state? Will Sprint continue building up its network and speed to contest T-Mobile and AT&T? And how will all these dramatic increases in mobile coverage effect our state's California Advanced Services Fund subsidy program? Stay tuned.
